Steven Tur, who works in SCRMC member Marjorie Brand’s lab, has received the prestigious Graduate Hematology Award from the American Society of Hematology (ASH). With only nine recipients, Tur will receive funding for his research focusing on T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), a severe hematological malignancy characterized by the aberrant expression of oncogenic transcription factors, transforming T-cell progenitors into malignant cells.
Tur shared that his research will focus on using advanced single-cell technologies and machine learning to map the networks that support cancer cell growth, discovering new treatment targets, and improving personalized medicine for T-ALL patients
“I am deeply grateful for the 2024 ASH graduate award,” says Tur. “As an interdisciplinary student with a background in physics, nanoscience, and biotechnology, I am very excited for the opportunity to dive deeper into the field of blood cancers for my graduate research. I hope that using single-cell technologies to combat T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia will lead to new treatments for this devastating disease, improve patient outcomes, and advance the field of blood cancer research.”
