Title: Species-specific developmental clock models derived from pluripotent stem cells
Abstract: Biological clocks are fundamental to life, coordinating cellular processes over time to ensure orderly development and tissue formation. The segmentation clock is one of the most striking examples of developmental timing, driving the sequential patterning of vertebrae during early embryogenesis. This presentation will discuss our recent work using pluripotent stem cell-derived models to recapitulate this intricate developmental process across species, and how disruption of clock synchronization underlies rare congenital vertebral diseases. Together, we anticipate these models will provide new tools and insights into developmental timing, with broad implications for comparative biology and human disease.
