Title: Decoding Cardiotoxicity with Human iPSCs and CRISPR Screens

Abstract: Dr. Chun Liu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Director of the CVRC iPSC Core. He is a stem cell biologist by training, with a Ph.D. focused on completely chemical based iPSC reprogramming and postdoctoral work in cardiovascular disease modeling at Stanford. His laboratory integrates human iPSCs, genome engineering, and CRISPR screening to elucidate cellular mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets in cardiovascular disease. A major focus of his group is cancer therapy–induced cardiotoxicity, an increasingly clinical problem as the number of U.S. cancer survivors now exceeds 18 million and continues to rise. In this talk, Dr. Liu will highlight recent work developing a large-scale CRISPRi/a screening platform in iPSC-derived cardiovascular cells to discover druggable target against chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity. He will also present new efforts to establish vascularized cardiac organoids and Perturb-seq profiling to uncover multicellular mechanisms that shape cardiovascular responses to stress.
