Title: Tiny Fish, Big Insights: Danionella cerebrum as a Novel Vertebrate Model for Regeneration Research

Abstract: Dr. Lam is an Associate Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Her laboratory utilizes the emerging vertebrate model Danionella cerebrum to uncover the cellular and molecular mechanisms that drive brain function, repair, and regeneration. The exceptional optical transparency and neurobiological accessibility of Danionella enable high-resolution, longitudinal imaging of cellular dynamics and intercellular communication in the intact adult brain. By allowing direct visualization of how multiple cell types interact over time, this model offers unique opportunities to understand the fundamental principles that underlie tissue maintenance, injury responses, and regenerative processes in vivo.
