Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is a new interdisciplinary postdoctoral program which aims to train a future generation of stem cell researchers. This program is funded by the SCRMC and is open to all nationalities.
We are currently accepting applications Deadline for applications will be January 1, 2010 for review by January 15, 2010.
A major strength of this program is the range of stem cell expertise at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, including:
- Cutting edge basic research examining mechanisms of pluripotency and differentiation of stem cells.
- A broad range of translational research exploring stem cell-based therapies for degenerative diseases of the brain, heart, blood, pancreas, and more.
- The WiCell Research Institute, which cultures and distributes five of the federally-approved human embryonic stem (hES) cell lines.
- One of only two National Primate Centers in the country that is currently deriving new primate ES cell lines.
- An active bioethics program examining the challenges and promise of stem cells.
General Information
Post doctoral fellowships are available through both an NIH T32 Stem Cell Training Program (US Citizens and permanent residents only) and the SCRMC Fellowship program (all nationalities). The SCRMC postdoctoral fellowships are open to trainees who will work with members of the SCRMC listed on our website http://stemcells.wisc.edu/faculty. Prospective postdoctoral applicants must first contact a potential mentor from this list of participating faculty. Only after discussion of potential research projects and mutual agreement may the application be submitted. The mentor must provide a letter of recommendation as part of the application process (may be submitted directly by the mentor to Sue Gilbert – see below).
The postdoctoral traineeships will be initially awarded for a one-year period, renewable for a second year upon demonstration of satisfactory progress. The current salary levels are available at http://grants.nih.gov/training/nrsa.htm. Each award will be supplemented by a $10,000 allowance for supplies to the mentor.
All applications should be sent or delivered to Sue Gilbert. (Electronic submission encouraged.)
